inCf, acronym for "in chief", is a new independent Italian magazine of visual arts.
The peculiarity of the magazine, from which its name also derives, is that each issue is entrusted to a different editor-in-chief who proposes the theme of the edition he takes care of and with which the editorial staff defines the editorial line and develops the contents.
The first issue is directed by Luca Santese, photographer and co-founder of the Cesura collective together with two editors at large, Nicola Patruno and Nicola Turrini. With them Santese have chosen to tackle the issue of Recording-Based Media, or those technical devices that have the ability to fix a visual and / or acoustic phenomenon on a specific support and, consequently, to reproduce it in a potentially infinite way.

ISSUE 1
The first issue of inCf, edited by Luca Santese, explores the artistic, cultural and social impact that multimedia storage and reproduction devices have had in the past, in our present and the future prospects that technological development offers us.
Projects such as Scraps by the artistic duo Broomberg and Chanarin, the great archival work of Ando Gilardi through the National Historical Photo Library, the multi-sound reality of the independent label ArteTetra and the possibilities of computer-generated imagery of the Sturm & Drang project developed by the Prada Foundation were examined. in collaboration with ETH of Zurich. The central part hosts the results of the residency of young photographers curated by Luca Santese and two of his unpublished projects and finally the editorial staff of inCf reflects on the representation of reality through the works of visual artists Alex Valentina, Sara Scanderebech and Daniele Villa Zorn.

"Having received the assignment as editor in chief for the first issue of the magazine, I proposed to the editorial staff to set up the work collectively, integrating Nicola Patruno, curator, independent researcher and founder of the art hub Jergon in Berlin and Nicola Turrini into the project, researcher in theoretical philosophy at the University of Verona.

From the very first meetings, the need emerged to set the number as a shared space for theoretical confrontation and experimentation, directing the choice of the theme to an area that was as inclusive as possible and that could contribute to contemporary reflection in photography. Following a discussion on the research work, which Patruno and Turrini are currently developing, the curators proposed setting the issue on Recording-based Media (RBM), a definition coined by Turrini in his monograph dedicated to the French pedagogist Fernand Deligny and which it includes all media capable of “recording” a sound or visual event on a medium which can then be reproduced and archived. Given the paper nature of the magazine, it was a question of declining this vast container in the field of visual arts, with particular reference to photographic production, but without neglecting some reflections in the field of sound. My task as editor was to coordinate the choice and organization of the contributions that the working group identified.
