ISSUE 9
In issue 09 of Design Anthology UK, we took a look back. We went to the beautifully restored Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester. The building is the former headquarters of The Refuge Assurance Company and tells the story of a city that thrived in the late 19th century.
We also celebrate another architectural jewel of the north, the Preston Bus Station, a brutalist beauty that everyone should know. Designed in the 1950s, this Lancashire hub was once one of Europe's most architecturally ambitious exchanges, although it was in danger of being demolished in the 2000s. Photographer Samuel Ryde talks about his connection with modernist bus stations up and down the country.
That, plus design news, hotel openings, upcoming art shows, and our style picks for fall.
