Cast It n.4
Cast it is a periodical on typography co-produced by Lazy Dog Press and CAST Cooperative Anonymous Printing Services. Two Italian references in the world of independent printing who have joined forces and, through this magazine, want to spread the culture of the typeface as a whole.
Each issue pursues the goal of its publishers by dedicating itself to a specific theme, with the hope that the reader at each issue can add a piece of knowledge in a world as ancient as it is incredibly fascinating even today.
ISSUE 4
The 4th edition of Cast IT, published in November 2020, presents Fournier's premise a Modéles de caracteres de l’imprimerie (1742) and the English version by Harry Carter (1930) commented by James Mosley (1995). The preface is edited by Sébastien Morlighem.
The French engraver Fourier le jeune in 1736 began his production of new characters in his own foundry in Paris. Modéles de caracteres was published 6 years later which included a "Notice to the Catkins of the Press" repurposed in this issue of Cast It. In this text the author writes his history of typography up to that point, celebrating some of his famous predecessors. It also illustrates and analyzes its point measurement system of typefaces, reasoning the need to make new ones. He concludes with a commitment to be the one who would improve the quality of the French press.
