ISSUE 5 - THE TRAVELING ARTIST
In this issue, with an unusual narrow and long format, the editorial staff of Soft converses with young artists who grew up in the era of globalization who have experienced study and life in Western countries, inviting them to share their thoughts on the idea of traveling between cultures.
How do they observe the new country and this period of life abroad is reflected in their cultural background? What is their personal experience of migration between different cultures and values? How do these experiences influence the artwork they make?
- Artist Liu Shiyuan and her husband Kristian Mondrup discuss what "globalization" really means.
- Scarlett Meng discusses her influences: from classical Chinese culture, her hometown, rooted in her, to the Western critical thinking style that has shaped her work.
- Ida Yang opens a reflection on Asian artists who hide "regional accents" when they create and show works on an international stage.
