ISSUE 22
The contributions in issue 22 of Zweikommasieben look to the past and how they evoke it, an appropriate approach, since 2020 has given impetus to a nostalgic way of looking at the world.
In an interview, the Australian duo CS + Kreme talks about how they still feed on the energy of an alchemical jam they had at the beginning of their collaboration. Likewise, Johanna Hedva holds the past in high regard in her artistic practice.
But how can what is past become productive and how to deal with nostalgia? Tracing the connections between memories and the present can be a possible answer, as Kamixlo recounts in an interview. The artist summarizes the long periods of time of the process that culminated in his latest album. The traces of the past can lead us back to the present as they contributed to that present, and following these traces could lead to the discovery of new paths in the present.
However, we shouldn't ignore the comforting innocence of a passing memory. British DJ and producer Mark Lawrence aka Mala presents these examples when talking about the first parties organized by DMZ in Brixton. And so does the Chinese artist Yikii, when he tells anecdotes about his school days.
Reading this issue, therefore, should be both an opportunity to evaluate the potential of the past in the present, and to innocently savor one or two nostalgic memories.
